Principle and feature

Over the last 15 decades, the bicycle is used one of the efficient means for transportation using conventional source of energy, and to reduce the direct effort of human being. Most of the modern bicycle, called bike or motor cycle equipped with the power range of 0.7 to 7 kW of power for the traction. As per the requirement during riding and for comfortability, the bike includes gear system for efficient running. Further, to save the petroleum source and to minimize the air pollution a variety of electric bicycles have been introduced. Presently, more than 100 companies are producing or are planning to produce electric bicycles. In most cases, however, such bicycles do not utilize the efficiency of the bicycle through the use of mechanical gears. Also, there is lack of idea about how-to covert of condemn engine of petrol fuelled bike to electric bike, rather than purchasing new bike.

The present invention relates to the field of motor cycles, more specifically relates to an electric powered assist bicycle i.e. e-Bike, which is configured to convert geared operated conventional petrol- fuelled motorcycle to electrically assisted bicycles with battery power source and methods for their use. The invention delivers exemplary electric assisted bicycles as well as motor assemblies for use with such bicycles. Appreciably, in principle this idea can be fit for any type of bicycle. The important feature of the invention is that it includes a existed motor/gear reduction assembly as an integral part of the bicycle employed to drive the front sprockets directly by use of a motor driver. By directly driving the front sprockets, the motor may take full advantage of the large range of mechanical gear reductions common to the modern bicycle. Use of such gear reductions allows for the efficiency of the electric motor and battery to be maximized.

Drawings and Embodiment

There were lot of work has been performed in different steps in terms of alteration and modification to develop new model of electric Bike in view of comfortability, economic and millage per charging. Before finalizing the e-Bike, two conventional Bike were dismantled for alteration and modification. After rigorous management of power and transmission system, the final e-Bike have been developed. Accessories and Bill of Material

During conversion, the carburettor and piston cylinder head and crank etc. of the engine of the bike was removed, the inner part of the engine was extended by aluminium modification so that the electric motor can be inside integrated with clutch, and the upper part of the engine is cut and widened by electric welding so that the 48v 60AH battery can be fit in it comfortably. There after cutting the top part of the petrol tank, it has a lid so that the tank can be used as a luggage, the bike has 4 gears, so that the bike can climb or climb easily.

Advantages

The following various advantages could be extended to the public from the battery- powered bike

  1. The bike is battery-electric powered bicycle, i.e. e-Bike, tends to pollution free run.
  2. The bike will not have to be serviced repeatedly in compare to petroleum fuelled engine bike.
  3. In a single charged bike can able to run 60 to 80 km with double rider efficiently.
  4. Four speed gear, conventional gear shifting system.
  5. Apart from the wear and tear tube in the bike which can be in any bike, there is no maintenance in bike.
  6. Front fuel tank can be used as a box for keeping substance.
  7. Easy to start, high initial pick up and smooth running.
  8. There is no effect of weather condition, as happens in petrol bike.
  9. Very good for short running distance, city ride.
  10. Incorporation of LED lighting for head, back and turning

Disadvantage

As the e-Bike runs with the electric power through battery, its major disadvantages are similar to the present e-bike in market as following-

  1. Cannot go for long run
  2. Longer time for charging
  3. Cannot run beyond 90 km /hr speed.

Testing

As the present e-Bike bike is pollution free because it powered by electric and through battery. As test result, we observed that once charged, this bike run 70 to 80 km in single ride, 60 to 70 km in double ride and the maximum speed of bike is 90 km. However, it can be improved by taking light chassis/ frame wight. The changing of gear is as conventional up to 4 gear ratio/speed, no gear shifting problem. In comparison to petrol bike there is not as noisy, runs very smooth. Further, this bike takes two hours to charge the battery, consumes 3 units of power for full charging. Moreover, the charging can also be done by solar system.
